Spring is right around the corner and you know what that means – longer free flights! I regularly look for interesting routes on Xcontest, where you can visualize flight data on a topographic map: airspaces, elevation profile, climb/sink rates, speeds and many more parameters. But wouldn’t it be cool to be able to have a video playback of where you have been?
That is exactly the idea behind Doarama: convert your GPS tracks to small, interactive “movies”. You can follow the glider pilot along his (or her) GPS track replay. On the upper left you see “live data” like distance travelled, current speed and climb/sink rate and the whole thing is interactive as well: move the viewing angle using your mouse and zoom in and out using the magnifier icons. The “rabbit” and “turtle” buttons are helpful if you want to increase or lower the replay rate.
What about your airbuddies? Just upload more than one GPS track and Doarama will show all tracks along each other. Create thrilling “movies”, like the one from Simon Brülisauer and Thomas Stivanello’s epic flight on June, 9th 2014 from Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Germany) to Schänis (Switzerland).
Do you own an Oculus Rift? It’s a virtual reality head mounted display. Click on the “eye” symbol on the upper left to watch the movie on your Oculus Rift.
